Hey Locavores,
I love the idea of trying to eat locally, but as a vegetarian, I depend for my protein on rice, lentils, beans, and/or tofu. Does anyone know if any of these are produced locally?…. If I can find these, I’ll be up for the September challenge!
thanks,
Orna.
My boyfriend and I started the diet yesterday and we too are vegetarians. We went to Greenwood Market and asked a couple of extremely helpful staff members these same questions. The woman was a Sustainable Agriculture student and she said lots of farms around here grow beans. They both recommended going to the farmer’s market and asking around. I know I’ve seen beans there so I plan on doing some intense networking there on Sunday
I’ll let you know what I find out!
Patrick & Tom @ Stoney Plains Farms sell black, canellini & cranberry beans, shelled & in the pod. They can be found at West Seattle Farmer’s Market on Sunday, and Columbia City on Wednesday.
